My HIV test was positive last year but negative this year?

My HIV test reacted positive last year in December 2013 and without treatment in this year in june and september 2014 it was negative. Can that be possible if am HIV+?

Answer

Hi

I can’t explain your individual results but it is clearly important that your doctor explains these to you.

In the UK. a positive test is confirmed with an even more accurate test, before HIV is confirmed. If this was done, then the recent tests are likely to be wrong (false-negatives).

If the original positive test was not confirmed, then it is difficult to comment as either could be wrong.

In the UK, if there is HIV antibody tests results are confusing, a viral load test would often be used to look for direct evidence of the virus.

Please ask your doctor about this so you can know your status for certain.
