Q and A

Question

Should i take my Tribuss (Atripla) with or without food?

I found out about my status last year when I was pregnant and was put on Tribuss straight away. Is it better to take my Tribuss before or after food?

Answer

Hi,

Tribuss is a generic version (copy) of a pill called Atripla. They both contain the same ingredients and work in the same way. They only have different names because they are made by different people.

It is actually ok to take Tribuss with food if it is a low fat meal. However taking it with a high fat meal could increase the level of drug in your system. This could cause more or worse side effects.

Thats why it is recommended that you leave two hours between taking it and eating. So you shouldn’t eat a high fat meal for two hours before and two hours after taking your pill.

It is also recommended that you take Tribuss just before going to sleep. This is because you’ll be avoiding side effects while you are asleep.

You can find more information about Tribuss in our online meds guide.

Hi Ignardine, to clarify you are taking one Trisbuss tablet a day before bed?

How long have you noticed that you have not had much of an appetite? and how long have you been on treatment for?

How much weight have you lost and over how long?

As you currently have a poor appetite, this reduction in food intake is likely the cause of your weight loss. Trisbuss usually causes the opposite effect and increased appetite. Has anything else in your life changed e.g., work, relationships, other health conditions?

An increased CD4 count means that Atripla is working. It’s normal for CD4 counts to go up and down and gradually increase – but slowly. It’s different for different people. But losing weight is not a reported side effect for Atripla. Ask your clinic why you might be losing weight, especially as you’ve got a good appetite and you each lots.

I’ve been on Atripla since May 2012. My CD4 count was 285 and now it’s 487. But I’m worried because it is increasing slowly and is going up and down. And I’m now losing weight. But I have an appetite and I’m always hungry and I eat a lot. I don’t know whether to change from Atripla to another drug.
