Question

Are scabs on my scalp a sign of HIV infection?

I had some scabs on my scalp – they were sometimes yellowish crusty lumps and sometimes red lumps.

These appeared about 2 weeks after possible exposure.

Could they be a sign of early HIV or seroconversion?

Answer

Thank you for your question.

What you describe is not a common symptom of recent HIV infection.

You need to show any symptom to a doctor who can make a proper diagnosis.

You can only know if you have caught HIV by taking a test. Most HIV tests (called ‘fourth generation’) will work as early as 3-4 weeks after any possible exposure.
