Q and A

Question

I’m undetectable, can I transmit HIV?

I’m HIV positive and I have a big problem, my boyfriend found and read my diary. He is now threatening to sue me and his demanding we both get tested . I told him it wasn’t true and that he should go get tested.

I’ve been undetectable for a good few months now. We had unprotected sex a good few times. Whats the chances of me transmitting it to him? I’m in a state.

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch.

I’m sorry to hear that your boyfriend found out about your status in that way. And that you feel like you have to deny it. And also that your boyfriend thought he had the right to read your personal diary.

In response to your question, because you’re undetectable the risk of transmission is close to zero. Please see the results of the PARTNER study for more info:

With regards to your boyfriend, is there any chance that you contracted HIV from him? If not then he should go and tested.

The laws that relate to HIV transmission vary depending on where you live. Which country are you in?
