Question

Should I start meds, my CD4 is 500.

Hi I have recently been diagnosed HIV positive. I’m healthy and my CD4 count above 500. My doctor didn’t prescribes any medicines yet , should I urge them to start me ART? Or is there any healthy habits/diets to maintain my CD4 count high ?

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch.

The World Health Organisation recommendations are, that everyone who is living with HIV should be on medication. This is even if they have a high CD4 count. Therefore, if you are ready, then yes, you should begin treatment.

The only thing that can help your HIV is medication. Though a healthy lifestyle and diet are also important.
