Question

Switching meds to help with weight gain.

hi, I was taking descovy and sustiva today my doctor switched me to truvada sustiva because of unwanted weight gain, how many days do I wait before starting truvada sustiva regime? He forgot to tell me how to make the switch and I cannot reach him now, how do I safely do this switch? please help.

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch.

You can make the switch straight away, that is if you’re ready. However, there’s no guarantee that you’ll lose weight once you’ve made the switch.

Also, the TAF that’s in Descovy is very similar to the tenofovir DF that’s in Truvada.

Is there any reason why your doctor thinks the Descovy was the reason for the weight gain?

    Hi Ayanda,

Before I can give you some info, I’m going to need to ask you some questions.

How are you doing with the Atrozia? Are you taking anything else other than the Atrozia? Are you getting any support? And how are you dealing with your diagnoses?

When you say that you’ve lost weight, how much weight have you lost? How is your diet?

Hi ,I’m a 26 year old male who was diagnosed with HIV on December 1st. My CD4 was 34. I started my treatment, Atrozia later that month. Up until now, I haven’t regained my weight back, I’m still as skinny but healthy, what can I do to regain back my weight?
