Q and A

Question

Can babies test positive after 20 month?

My baby is 20months old. The doctors have told me that he’s negative. Is this possible? Won’t he show as being positive when he’s older?

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch.

If your baby has tested negative for all of their tests and especially the one at 18 months, this means that they are negative for HIV. For more about infant testing, please see here:

In response to your question, no they won’t develop HIV as they get older, not unless they are exposed to it. For now they are negative. This is great news.
