Q and A

Question

I’m undetectable and want to stop meds, can I?

My CD4 is 950 and my viral load is less than 20, I want to stop my meds, because its disturbing me every time I take my meds , what should I do?

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch.

The reason why your viral load is undetectable is because you’re on medication. If you were to stop taking your medication this would rebound. This meaning that your HIV would no longer be under control. Please see Q7 here: https://i-base.info/qa/what-are-the-most-asked-questions

This will happen even if your CD4 count is high.

If the medication that you’re using is causing you problems its worth talking to your doctor about changing. There’s more than one option available.
