Q and A

Question

When will my viral load be undetectable?

I’m due to give birth in July. I’ve been on medication for a month. How long will it take before my viral load is undetectable? Will my baby be OK?

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch.

When someone starts treatment their viral load should become undetectable within 1-3 months of starting treatment. However for some people this can take longer. This is why where possible it’s important to have your viral load tested.

All being well your viral load should be undetectable several months before you give birth.

Its not possible for me nor anyone else to say if your baby will be OK. However, being on medication is the best thing that you can do. The medication will reduce the risk of transmission. Please see here:  https://i-base.info/guides/pregnancy
