Q and A

Question

Why have I tested positive whilst my husband is negative?

I was diagnosed with HIV 6 months ago. The thing is my husband tested negative, why is this?

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch.

Contracting HIV is basically an issue of bad luck. Some people are exposed once and they contract HIV, others can have numerous risks and over many years and they don’t contract the virus. As to why this is, we still don’t know. For more info please see Q5 here: https://i-base.info/qa/what-are-the-most-asked-questions

    Hi Worry,

Breast milk does contain a very tiny amount of HIV. Breast milk can be infectious to a baby but is unlikely to be infectious to an adult.
