Question

Is it risky to have unprotected sex with a partner with the same type of virus?

Thank you for your responce to my previous question. It was really useful. Thanks once again. I want to know the risk of having intercourse with a girlfriend with the same type of virus without using a condom. Which is more risky-with the same or with a different type of virus? Or both?

Answer

Thank you for your questions. It is a personal desicion what kind of sex consenting couples choose to have. I would say that if both you and your girlfriend are on anti-HIV treatment and have undetectable VL, you should be fine. When you have unprotected sex with someone who has a different kind of virus, you obviously run the risk of acquiring a different type of virus.
