Q and A

Question

Will I get my old figure back?

Hi

I was on HAART for a year but stopped it due to lipodystrophy and lipoatrophy. I am now taking Stocrin (efavirenz) and Truvada. It’s been six months now since I started the new combination.

What I would like to know is, I am slowly but surely gaining the weight back especially on my face and my legs, will I get back to the shape I was before I had these side effects? I am 31 year old black female who had an hour glass figure. Will I get it back as time goes on?

Answer

Thank you for your question.

You did the right thing changing your treatment when you realised your body was changing shape. Changing treatment can sometimes reverse fat loss which is sounds as if it is doing in your case. Everyone reacts slightly differently to treatments. It is difficult to say to what extent you will get your old figure back but it sounds very positive and as if you are well on the way.

    Hi Segomosto,

Its possible that you’ve body is like this due to the medication that you used to take. It can be difficult to reverse these issues, however it may be possible. The following link may help: http://i-base.info/guides/side/fat-loss-lipoatrophy
