Question

My doctor wants to disclose my status to a specialist, is he right?

Hello just to add to a question I asked before about informing my specialist. He says he must state my status if the process involved is invasive such as anything were well like going for an endoscopy. Is this the case? I’m confused. Thanks

Answer

Thank you for your question.

Every medical professional should use universal precautions which means that any invasive procedures should be dealt with as if everyone has HIV and other blood-bourne diseases. Some people have blood-bourne diseases without knowing it and so that is why universal precautions are used. Your doctor does not have to tell them your status. They should insist that the specialist is not told if that is what you want.
