How do I work out the times to take Combivir and efavirenz?

Answer

Hi

Efavirenz is best taken an hour or two before you go to sleep so that when the drug levels are highest you are hopefully sleeping.

If this means you want to take your efavirenz at 9 o’clock at night, then it is fine to take one of your Combivir pills at the same time, and to take the second Combivir pill 12 hours later – ie at 9am in the morning.

Good luck with the new combination.

Info on efavirenz side effects is at this link, if your clinic hasn’t already talked to you about this.
