How can I get pregnant when I am HIV positive?

Can you please give me information on the right procedure in getting pregnant when you are HIV positive?

    Hi,
Couples like yours are common and many safely have HIV negative children. This is usually done with treatment. Being on HIV treatment will eventually mean the risk of transmitted HIV to your husband is extremely low. If you become pregnant being on treatment will also help prevent your child becoming positive.

    Hi,

I’m sorry you are having trouble getting pregnant. You should talk to your doctor or clinic about this. They can help you work out what is going on. If they can’t they might be able to refer you to a specialist.

    Hi Dimakatso

Finding out you are HIV positive is difficult. It will take you time to come to accept this. It will also take time to decide how you want to move forward.

Do you have any support. It is definitely easier if you have someone you can talk to. Your clinic should be able to tell you about support groups who can also help.

Although the news is shocking, it will get easier. Modern treatment means that you can still do everything you planned before you found out you were positive. You can also have as long and as healthy a life as if you were HIV negative.

    Hi Margaret,

Taking HIV meds will not prevent you from becoming pregnant. If you are thinking about getting pregnant you should talk to your clinic or doctor.

    Hi,

Congratulations! Many positive couples have HIV negative children. The most important thing is for you to have an undetectable viral load by the time you give birth. You can do this by taking HIV treatment.
