Question

Are the dark patches on my skin HIV related?

Does HIV have an impact on your skin? I am a 25 year old black lady and have a CD4 count of 445. I have recently developed dark patches all over my body. Could this be an allergic reaction or just one of the symptoms of HIV ?

Answer

Thank you for your question.

The best way to determine what is causing the dark patches, is to have them examined by a doctor.

Your doctor will be able to look at the extent of the rash, whether the skin is broken and to take a history of what the cause might be. He/she will also be able to refer you to a skin specialist if this is necessary.

Best wishes
