Q and A

Question

Can I take Pregnacare?

Can an HIV positive woman take pregnacare if she is trying to conceive?

Answer

Pregnacare is a supplement that contains a combination of vitamins, including folic acid. Folic acid is usually recommended for women planning to conceive. It can also be taken during the early stages of pregnancy or throughout the pregnancy. This is because it is good for the early stages of the baby’s development.

There is no reason why women living with HIV should not take Pregnacare. However, as with any other supplements, it it important to let your doctor know if you are taking these.

    Hi Fundiswa,

Have you just been diagnosed? If you have you’re going to need to start medication. Once on medication your viral load will decrease and your CD4 will rise. Please see here: http://i-base.info/guides/side
