Can an HIV positive woman take pregnacare if she is trying to conceive?
Answer
Pregnacare is a supplement that contains a combination of vitamins, including folic acid. Folic acid is usually recommended for women planning to conceive. It can also be taken during the early stages of pregnancy or throughout the pregnancy. This is because it is good for the early stages of the baby’s development.
There is no reason why women living with HIV should not take Pregnacare. However, as with any other supplements, it it important to let your doctor know if you are taking these.

Folic acid is a vitamin B complex. Pregnacare looks like it’s vitamin B with additional vitamins. These can be taken during pregnancy but please discuss these supplements with your doctor first. Some supplements can interact with your ARVs. And that can increase the risk of HIV to your baby.
What ARVs are you taking? And do you have access to your CD4 count and viral load results? Please let us know.
