Question

CD4 is 410:questions about living with HIV

Hi , I started ARV drugs with a CD4 count of 410 since Nov 2012 . I also take immublend supplement. My question is:

1. What will be my current CD4 count?
2. Is the supplement good for my immunity?
3. Can I marry an HIV- partner?

Answer

Hello,

Thanks for your email. I think you emailed recently with some similar questions- please can you let me know that you have seen this response by commenting below?

I’ve answered your questions in the order you gave them:

  1. CD4 counts vary a lot between different people. Some people will see a big increase a few months after starting treatment while others will see no, only very little increase. This graph highlights average increases but unfortunately it’s not possible for me to guess what your CD4 count will be. When is your next CD4 count test?
  2. Supplements have no impact on your immune system.
  3. Being HIV positive shouldn’t change who you marry. Please see our FAQs page about Couples where one person is pos + and the other is neg-

Hi Depros, I’m sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis. Do you have any support to help you deal with this?

CD4 counts are very individual so it’s impossible to say from one reading how long it will be before you need treatment. It will take a few tests to get an idea of how quickly you are progressing before you can get an idea of this timeline. Our Introduction to combination therapy guide has information about CD4 counts and treatment, so have a look there and let me know if you have any further questions.
