Q and A

Question

Will my Pap test be normal after LLETZ?

Is it always that HIV+ women have their Pap smear results abnormal or there is any possibility that they may come normal especially after performing LLETZ?

Answer

Hello,

Thanks for your email. It is possible for an HIV positive woman to have a normal result during a cervical smear (Pap test).

LLETZ, which is used to remove abnormal cells in the cervix, is usually very successful. In almost 100% of cases abnormal cells do not return after this procedure. If you have had a LLETZ procedure there is therefore a good chance that your next Pap test would have normal results.
