Q and A

Question

How long do Odimune side effects last?

I just started Odimune. How long do the side effects last?

Answer

Hi,

Odimune is a generic version of Atripla and contains three drugs: efavirenz, tenofovir and 3TC.

This previous question discusses side effects related to this combination.

Please look there, and let me know if you have any further questions.

Hi Zandile, constipation is a side effect of Odimune. Commonly it will go away in 2 – 4 weeks. Are you still able to pass stool? Have you tried anything to help with constipation? Please see here for more information: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/constipation/

    Hi Sebenzile,

For some people the side effects of ARVs can last longer. If possible you should talk to your doctor about this, you may need to change to another combination and one that doesn’t contain efavirenz. Just to check, how are you taking your meds?

    Hi Sharon,

Your CD4 count is high, this is a great sign.
The issues that you’re having may be due to the ARVs, or they could be due to the pregnancy. Are you able to change medication?

    Hi Cleodene,

The HIV meds in Atripla are the same as those in Odimune. So there shouldn’t be different side effects. Please see this link http://i-base.info/guides/1561.

It’s good that you’ve finished taking your first level TB meds. You could talk to your doctor about getting your weigh back up.

Here’s the guide to a balanced diet and your health. This might help you take in more calories.

    Hi

My CD4 is 79, went on treatment a week before i fell sick with opportunistic infection, stomach TB. Just finished my 1st level of TB treatment. When i started my ARV’s i was on Atripla. Clinic just changed it now to Odimune. Will i experience different side effects than the Atripla. My weight is down from 70 to 39, just afraid i wont be able to handle another set of side effects.
