This should be roughly 24 hours and 48 hours after the first double dose.<\/p>\n<p>These times can be approximate. You still get good protection even if you have sex earlier or later than planned.<i> <\/i><b>Even if the pre-dose is only just before or even after sex, some PrEP is always better than none.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><i>If you have sex several times over a few days, keep taking a pill each day. Continue for two days after the last day you have sex.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<h2>2.\u00a0Event-based 2:1:1 dosing: more sex!<\/h2>\n<p><b>If you have sex over a few days, keep taking a pill each day. Event-based 2:7 dosing<\/h2>\n<p><b>2:7 dosing is sometimes needed by cis women and trans and non-binary people having receptive vaginal\/frontal sex.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i-base.info\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/EBD-example-2b.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-17032\" src=\"https:\/\/i-base.info\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/EBD-example-2b.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"730\" height=\"421\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i-base.info\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/EBD-example-2b.png 730w, https:\/\/i-base.info\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/EBD-example-2b-300x173.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>If you are a cisgender woman, or are transgender or non-binary, having receptive vaginal or frontal sex might need daily PrEP to continue for seven days.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>This is for situations when you didn\u2019t take at least four doses of PrEP the previous week.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Start with a double dose before sex and then take daily PrEP for <b>seven<\/b> days after sex, at roughly the same time each day.<\/p>\n<p><em>Some researchers think that fewer doses after sex would also be okay, for example, 2:1:1:1 dosing.
