{"id":3545,"date":"2016-04-12T09:00:15","date_gmt":"2016-04-12T09:00:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/moomango.co.uk\/guides\/?p=3545"},"modified":"2024-08-30T12:58:04","modified_gmt":"2024-08-30T12:58:04","slug":"atazanavir","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/i-base.info\/guides\/3545","title":{"rendered":"atazanavir"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3575\" 300mg\" src=\"https:\/\/i-base.info\/guides\/files\/2010\/01\/atazanavir-300mg.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"88\" height=\"39\" \/><\/p>\n<p><!--more--> <em>at-az-ZAN-a-veer<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Atazanavir (tradename Reyataz in Europe) is a protease inhibitor that is usually taken with a separate boosting dose of either\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/i-base.info\/guides\/3557\">ritonavir<\/a>\u00a0or <a href=\"https:\/\/i-base.info\/guides\/8930\">cobicistat<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Standard adult\u00a0dose:<br \/>\n1 x 300 mg or 2 x 150 mg capsules, once-daily, usually plus booster. The booster is either 1 x 100 mg\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/i-base.info\/guides\/3557\">ritonavir<\/a>\u00a0or 1 x 150 mg <a href=\"https:\/\/i-base.info\/guides\/8930\">cobicistat<\/a>. When a booster\u00a0is not used the standard adult\u00a0dose increases to 2 x 200 mg capsules, once-daily.<\/li>\n<li>Atazanavir needs to be taken with food. This is to increase absorption for better drug levels. Food can be a light meal (calorie count is not specified) and does not need to contain fat.<\/li>\n<li>Side effects: yellowing eyes or skin in 10% of patients. This is a cosmetic change rather than causing a health problem. It total bilirubin levels increase to 60-70 mmol\/L atazanavir is either changes or the dose is modified. Cholesterol can increase due to the use of ritonavir. Atazanavir can cause kidney stones and gallstones. Other side effects include nausea, diarrhoea and lipodystrophy.<\/li>\n<li>Other notes: if ritonavir\/cobicistat or yellow causes problems, atazanavir can be used on its own at a higher dose of 400 mg once-daily with food (but not when combined with tenofovir or Truvada because of a drug interaction).
