{"id":11255,"date":"2003-06-01T10:29:16","date_gmt":"2003-06-01T10:29:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/i-base.info\/htb\/?p=11255"},"modified":"2014-05-27T12:50:57","modified_gmt":"2014-05-27T12:50:57","slug":"south-africa-fails-to-accept-41-million-from-global-fund","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/i-base.info\/htb\/11255","title":{"rendered":"South Africa fails to accept $41 million from Global Fund"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Richard Feachem, executive director of the UN-administered Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, says he is disappointed the South African government had not signed a deal to accept millions of dollars to combat the HIV pandemic.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In April, Feachem visited South Africa to sign an agreement for the release of US$41 million &#8211; the first installment of US$165 million to be released over five years &#8211; to fund programmes combating AIDS. But the South African government has repeatedly delayed signing the deal, citing \u201ccomplex legal procedures,\u201d according to the South African Press Association.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have no words to express my dismay. It seems that the health ministry or whoever is responsible for this are fiddling while Rome is burning. People are dying,\u201d said Anglican Archbishop Njongonkulu Ndungane.
