{"id":11639,"date":"2003-09-01T06:40:57","date_gmt":"2003-09-01T06:40:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/i-base.info\/htb\/?p=11639"},"modified":"2014-05-27T11:39:07","modified_gmt":"2014-05-27T11:39:07","slug":"metformin-and-exercise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/i-base.info\/htb\/11639","title":{"rendered":"Additional benefits of exercise with metformin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Simon Collins, HIV i-Base<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Driscoll and colleagues reported that exercise training (one hour of aerobic plus strength training three times a week) together with metformin (850mg BID) significantly improved cardiovascular risk markers (waist-to-hip ratio, resting systolic and diastolic blood pressures and aerobic capacity to exercise) compared to metformin alone.<\/strong> [19]<\/p>\n<p>The study population included 37 HIV-positive patients on HAART with hyperinsulinaemia or impaired glucose tolerance and waist-to-hip ratio &gt;0.90 in men or &gt;0.85 in women. Only 25 people completed the study, which unfortunately did not include an exercise-only arm.
