{"id":24576,"date":"2014-02-01T09:21:04","date_gmt":"2014-02-01T09:21:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/i-base.info\/htb\/?p=24576"},"modified":"2018-05-02T11:55:00","modified_gmt":"2018-05-02T11:55:00","slug":"simeprevir-approved-in-the-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/i-base.info\/htb\/24576","title":{"rendered":"Simeprevir approved in the US"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Note: The marketing authorisation for simeprevir has since been withdrawn by Janssen (on 1 May 2018) so this drug is no longer available in the EU.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>FDA news release<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>On 22 November 2013, the US FDA approved simeprevir 150 mg capsules for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C (CHC) infection.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Approval is based on use as a component of a combination antiviral treatment regimen with peginterferon alfa and ribavirin.<\/p>\n<p>Simeprevir is a hepatitis\u00a0C virus (HCV) NS3\/4A protease inhibitor.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Simeprevir must not be used as monotherapy.<\/li>\n<li>Simeprevir efficacy in combination with peginterferon alfa and ribavirin is influenced by baseline host and viral factors.<\/li>\n<li>Simeprevir efficacy in combination with peginterferon alfa and ribavirin is substantially reduced in patients infected with HCV genotype\u00a01a with an NS3 Q80K polymorphism at baseline compared to patients infected with hepatitis\u00a0C virus (HCV) genotype\u00a01a without the Q80K polymorphism. Screening patients with HCV genotype\u00a01a infection for the presence of virus with the NS3 Q80K polymorphism at baseline is strongly recommended. Alternative therapy should be considered for patients infected with HCV genotype\u00a01a containing the Q80K polymorphism.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Simeprevir is manufactured by Janssen Pharmaceuticals and is marketed under the trade name Olysio.<\/p>\n<p>For full details, see the US Summary of Product Characteristics.
