The marketing authorisation for simeprevir has since been withdrawn by Janssen (on 1 May 2018) so this drug is no longer available in the EU.<\/p>\n

In December 2013, the European Association for the Study of the Liver issued revised clinical guidelines for management of hepatitis C.<\/strong> [1]<\/p>\n

These Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) are intended to assist physicians and other healthcare providers, as well as patients and other interested individuals, and replace the previous edition in 2011.<\/p>\n

Comment<\/h3>\n

The guidelines note that the document only relates to use of treatment that were approved in Europe in November 2013.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A significant limitation is that the only two direct acting antivirals (DAAs) mentioned in the context of treatment are boceprevir and telaprevir.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In this crucial aspect the guidelines are already out of date and the urgency for addressing this should be a priority for EASL.<\/strong><\/p>\n
