{"id":25832,"date":"2014-05-27T12:04:48","date_gmt":"2014-05-27T12:04:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/i-base.info\/htb\/?p=25832"},"modified":"2014-05-28T10:11:51","modified_gmt":"2014-05-28T10:11:51","slug":"partner-2-study-extended-for-gay-couples","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/i-base.info\/htb\/25832","title":{"rendered":"Partner 2 study extended for gay couples"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Simon Collins, HIV i-Base<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The second phase of the PARTNER Study aims to estimate the risk of HIV transmission in gay sero-discordant couples.<\/strong> [1]<\/p>\n<p>To enrol, the HIV positive partner needs to be on ART with an undectectable viral load and the couple need to be sexually active and not always using condoms.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 950 gay male (MSM) couples are needed for PARTNER 2 and currently 470 MSM couples are already participating in the first phase of the PARTNER study.<\/p>\n<p>MSM couples already participating in PARTNER 1 will be encouraged to continue follow-up in PARTNER 2 until 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Interim results presented at CROI 2014 reported no linked transmissions after 894 eligible couple-years of follow up and more than 44,500 exposures (half of which involved anal sex without a condom). [2]<\/p>\n<p>The additional follow-up will provide similar confidence levels for the residual risk of HIV transmission for gay men compared to heterosexual couples.<\/p>\n<p>UK sites for PARTNER 2<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Chelsea and Westminster, London<\/li>\n<li>Mortimer Market Centre, London<\/li>\n<li>Royal Free Hospital, London<\/li>\n<li>St. Thomas&#8217;s London<\/li>\n<li>Western General Hospital, Edinburgh<\/li>\n<li>Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton<\/li>\n<li>Southmead Hospital, Bristol<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>New sites are still being sought for this second phase.
