{"id":35382,"date":"2018-12-12T09:34:54","date_gmt":"2018-12-12T09:34:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/i-base.info\/htb\/?p=35382"},"modified":"2018-12-12T14:53:24","modified_gmt":"2018-12-12T14:53:24","slug":"new-community-recommendations-for-hiv-cure-studies-that-include-a-treatment-interruption","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/i-base.info\/htb\/35382","title":{"rendered":"New community recommendations for HIV cure studies that include a treatment interruption"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"HTBsubhead3authorcredit\"><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">Simon Collins, HIV i-Base<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"HTBBODYtext\"><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">An excellent new community report summarises the safest approaches to research studies that include asking participants to interrupt ART. <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"HTBBODYtext\"><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">Studies that include an analytic treatment interruption (ATI) are usually linked to cure-related research.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"HTBBODYtext\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The report has been produced by <\/span>Richard Jefferys\u00a0<span lang=\"EN-US\">at TAG in New York. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"HTBBODYtext\">It is based on several earlier community initiatives that i-Base was also involved in. It includes results from an activist survey on ATIs and a data review of ongoing studies using an ATI.<\/p>\n<p class=\"HTBBODYtext\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Some of the key recommendations include: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"HTBBODYindent\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Baseline CD4 count &gt;500 cells\/mm<sup>3<\/sup>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"HTBBODYindent\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">CD4 nadir &gt;350 cells\/mm<sup>3<\/sup>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"HTBBODYindent\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Screening for cardiovascular risk.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"HTBBODYindent\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">HBV, HCV and other complications or comorbidities (including diabetes and hypertension) as exclusion criteria. <\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"HTBBODYindent\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Caution in people older than 50 years or in smokers\/heavy smokers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"HTBBODYindent\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Restricting maximum time off-ART to 16 weeks (with restart criteria likely to be met earlier than this for many participants).<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"HTBBODYindent\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Restarting ART if CD4 count drops to &lt;350 cells\/mm<sup>3<\/sup> or by 30%.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"HTBreference-noindent\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Reference<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"HTBreference-noindent\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Jefferys R.
