{"id":37622,"date":"2020-04-17T07:36:00","date_gmt":"2020-04-17T07:36:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/i-base.info\/htb\/?p=37622"},"modified":"2020-05-15T10:04:25","modified_gmt":"2020-05-15T10:04:25","slug":"hiv-cure-researchers-in-us-launch-hiv-and-covid-19-coinfection-database","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/i-base.info\/htb\/37622","title":{"rendered":"Prospective cohorts to study COVID-19 including HIV"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"HTBsubhead3authorcredit\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><b><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/i-base.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/COVID-19-graphic.png\" width=\"231\" height=\"142\" \/><\/strong><\/b><strong>Simon Collins, HIV i-Base<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"HTBsubhead3authorcredit\"><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">New prospective studes to understand the natural history, especially in special populations, for example with HIV are already underway.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"HTBBODYtext\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">These should be started as soon as possible and hopefully using\u00a0 similar or shared methodology that will enable data from multiple studies to be combined when larger power is needed to see smaller signals, for example for genetic markers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"HTBBODYtext\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">These studies should be developed with the involvement of community advocates and should be listed on clinicaltrials.gov (where dozens already planned) or another clinical trials registry. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"HTBBODYtext\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">A few initiatives are listed below as reference for other researchers looking to start similar projects.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>COVID-19 in UK general population<\/h2>\n<p class=\"HTBBODYtext\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Queen Mary College London and collaborators are planning a prospective observational cohort of 12,000 participants in the UK general population aged 16 and over. The primary outcome is COVID-19 diagnosis with numerous clinical secondary outcomes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"HTBBODYtext\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">This study is due to start in April 2020 and will run for five years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"HTBreference-noindent\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Ref: clinicaltrials.gov. NCT04330599.<br \/>\n<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/clinicaltrials.gov\/ct2\/show\/NCT04330599\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">https:\/\/clinicaltrials.gov\/ct2\/show\/NCT04330599<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>NEAT-ID develop COVID-19 dashboard for HIV data in Europe<\/h2>\n<p class=\"HTBBODYtext\"><span class=\"apple-converted-space\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The last issue of HTB included news that the\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">NEAT ID network has developed a simple database dashboard to monitor the progress of COVID-19 in HIV positive people across Europe for researchers to contribute to.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"HTBBODYtext\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Please see the report in the last issue for details and contact information.<br \/>\n<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/i-base.info\/htb\/37439\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">https:\/\/i-base.info\/htb\/37439 <\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"HTBBODYtext\">COVID-19 and HIV: a prospective observational US study<\/h2>\n<p class=\"HTBBODYtext\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The University of Missouri is running <\/span>multi-centre prospective observational study in 500 participants coinfected with HIV and COVID-19. [1, 2]<\/p>\n<p class=\"HTBBODYtext\">They aim is to characterise the clinical presentation and clinical course of COVID-19 in people living with HIV.<\/p>\n<p class=\"HTBBODYtext\">The primary outcome is 30-day mortality with serious comorbidities are secondary outcomes.\u00a0The study opened in April and will run until October.<span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"HTBreferences\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Ref: clinicaltrials.gov. NCT04333953.<br \/>\n<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/clinicaltrials.gov\/ct2\/show\/NCT04333953\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">https:\/\/clinicaltrials.gov\/ct2\/show\/NCT04333953<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"HTBBODYtext\">HIV cure researchers in US launch HIV and COVID-19 coinfection database<\/h2>\n<p class=\"HTBreferences\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">An initiative in the US called Coronavirus\u00a0Under\u00a0Research\u00a0Exclusion (CURE HIV-COVID) has launched an adult database to monitor and report on outcomes of COVID-19 occurring in HIV patients.\u00a0[1]<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"HTBBODYtext\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">They want US doctors to report all cases of COVID-19, regardless of severity and including asymptomatic patients detected through public health screening.\u00a0Cases should be confirmed COVID-19 with at least seven days of follow-up. Each case is easy to report only and will take about five minutes.
