{"id":39730,"date":"2021-01-22T07:41:23","date_gmt":"2021-01-22T07:41:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/i-base.info\/htb\/?p=39730"},"modified":"2021-01-25T12:43:53","modified_gmt":"2021-01-25T12:43:53","slug":"phe-report-on-hiv-and-stis-during-covid-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/i-base.info\/htb\/39730","title":{"rendered":"PHE report on HIV and STIs during COVID-19"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Public\u00a0Health\u00a0England<\/b><\/p>\n<p><strong>A provisional analysis from Public Health England (PHE) on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic response on sexually transmitted infections (STIs), HIV and viral hepatitis service provision and epidemiology.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Main findings include that between March and May 2020, there were reductions in:<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Consultations undertaken by sexual health services (SHSs) and specialised HIV services.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Testing for viral hepatitis in drug services, prisons, general practice and SHSs.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Testing for HIV and STIs in SHSs.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Vaccination of gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (MSM) against Human Papillomavirus (HPV), hepatitis B (HBV) and hepatitis A (HAV).<\/li>\n<li>Diagnoses of viral hepatitis, HIV and STIs and hepatitis C (HCV) treatment initiations.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Also from June 2020, there was an increase in HIV, STIs and hepatitis tests and diagnoses, and hepatitis C virus (HCV) treatment, following the easing of national lockdown restrictions.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This reflects a partial recovery in service provision and demand.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, numbers of consultations, vaccinations, tests, diagnoses, and treatment initiations in the summer of 2020 were considerably lower than in corresponding months in 2019.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Reference<\/p>\n<p>PHE.
