Now, serious limitations have become apparent.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To veteran AIDS researchers, \u201cBerlin\u201d is shorthand for \u201cgloom and doom, 1993.\u201d \u201cVancouver\u201d translates to \u201celation, 1996.\u201d \u201cDurban\u201d means \u201cwaking up to the global crisis, 2000.\u201d The tags refer to the field\u2019s Zeitgeist in the years these cities hosted the international AIDS conference.
