{"id":7636,"date":"2005-01-29T15:08:08","date_gmt":"2005-01-29T14:08:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/moomango.co.uk\/htb\/?p=7636"},"modified":"2015-03-09T15:19:29","modified_gmt":"2015-03-09T15:19:29","slug":"updated-uk-guidelines-for-hiv-and-hepatitis-coinfection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/i-base.info\/htb\/7636","title":{"rendered":"Updated UK guidelines for HIV and hepatitis coinfection (2005)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Updated guidelines are now available on the British HIV Association BHIVA website.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bhiva.org\">www.bhiva.org<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The major changes for each section include:<\/p>\n<h2>HBV coinfection<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Reformatted in the style of the ART guidelines.<\/li>\n<li>Treatment algorithms added.<\/li>\n<li>New, clearer definitions of when to treat and with what.<\/li>\n<li>High CD4: ideally treat according to liver biopsy result. Options are to use interferon if HBeAg +ve (non-cirrhotic) and abnormal LFT or adefovir in those who are HBeAg +ve or HBeAg \u2013ve and HBV-DNA &gt;10<sup>4<\/sup> copies\/ml (&gt;10<sup>3<\/sup> if cirrhosis)<\/li>\n<li>Low CD4 requiring ART: treat according to HBeAg status and HBV-DNA (as above). Can use tenofovir alone as part of HAART. 3TC\/FTC are only recommended in combination with tenofovir.<\/li>\n<li>Updated clinical trial evidence and references.<\/li>\n<li>New information on investigations and vaccination.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>HCV coinfection<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Reformatted in the style of the ART guidelines.<\/li>\n<li>Recommended treatment is with pegylated interferon and ribavirin<\/li>\n<li>Non-pegylated interferon is no longer recommended<\/li>\n<li>Updated information on clinical trails and references<\/li>\n<li>Deletion of discussion on non-pegylated interfero<\/li>\n<li>Recommend avoid AZT and ddI in those on ribavirin.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Updated guidelines are now available on the British HIV Association BHIVA website. www.bhiva.org The major changes for each section include: HBV coinfection Reformatted in the style of the ART guidelines.
