{"id":12318,"date":"2016-10-17T01:43:51","date_gmt":"2016-10-17T01:43:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/i-base.info\/qa\/?p=12318"},"modified":"2016-11-21T15:42:35","modified_gmt":"2016-11-21T15:42:35","slug":"are-there-new-drugs-and-why-are-old-ones-still-used","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/i-base.info\/qa\/12318","title":{"rendered":"Are there new drugs and why are old ones still used?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hi<\/p>\n<p>Thanks for your question.<\/p>\n<p>You didn&#8217;t say which country you are in, but every country has seen many new drugs prescribed since 2000.<\/p>\n<p>Very few older drugs are still used in most countries.<\/p>\n<p>A few exceptions are lamivudine (3TC) which has very few side effects.<\/p>\n<p>Another is efavirenz, which is good at treating HIV but definitely has more complex side effects. In countries where efavirenz is still prescribed &#8211; including the UK &#8211; this is because it is now a very inexpensive drug.
