Check US treatment guidelines<\/a> – a good resource that are frequently updated.<\/p>\n

COVID-19 is also complicated because it has different stages of infection. It starts as a viral infection but can also become a more serious inflammatory disease.<\/p>\n

Some treatments for very late infection should not be used in early infection (for example dexamethasone<\/a>). Some treatments for early infection are not recommended in very late disease (for example remdesavir<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Positive results have also been reported for IL-6 agonists (tocilizumab<\/a> – in late infection), monoclonal antibodies<\/a> (in early infection),\u00a0colchicine<\/a>\u00a0(in very early infection) and monoclonal antibodies<\/a> (as prophylaxis).<\/p>\n

Many early studies were NOT effective – whcih also means staying up-to-date. This means drugs like hydroxychloroquine, lopinavir\/r, azithromycin and ribavirin do NOT work.<\/p>\n

Many other research studies are taking place so it is important to look for latest results.\u00a0You might also want to join a study. However, the more serious your COVID-19, the more important it will be to use drugs that are likely to work.<\/p>\n

All studies should make sure all participants get the minimum standard of care. Potential new treatments are usually compared to either a placebo (dummy pill) to just to standard of care.<\/p>\n

Other promising treatments include anakinra, anticoagulants, monoclonal antibodies or possibly convalescent plasma.<\/p>\n

These options are likely to depend on your individual health at the time.<\/p>\n
