{"id":19294,"date":"2022-03-12T15:13:02","date_gmt":"2022-03-12T15:13:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/i-base.info\/qa\/?p=19294"},"modified":"2022-03-12T16:08:21","modified_gmt":"2022-03-12T16:08:21","slug":"when-will-injectable-art-be-available-on-the-nhs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/i-base.info\/qa\/19294","title":{"rendered":"When will injectable ART be available on the NHS?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hi, how are you doing?<\/p>\n<p>The cabotegravir with rilpirivine injectable ART is expected to be available on the NHS within the next few weeks.<\/p>\n<p>In Wales it should already have become available this month and it has already been available in Scotland for several months.<\/p>\n<p>The injections (there are always two) are given every 2 months, not monthly. It will be offered as a switch option, meaning you already need an undetectable viral load on ART.<\/p>\n<p>The process to switch will be: oral tablets for the first month, then higher dose initial injections and then finally 2 separate intramuscular injections every 2 months.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>More information <a href=\"https:\/\/i-base.info\/htb\/41623\">on access times can be found on this recent HTB article<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The British HIV Association (BHIVA) have published <a href=\"https:\/\/i-base.info\/htb\/42068\">quidelines on who will be able to get injectable ART<\/a>. This mainly involves being on ART with an undetectable viral load for over 6 months, and not having drug resistance.
