The difference between these two combinations being TLD uses Tenofovir DF (TDF)<\/a> and this new combination uses Tenofovir AF (TAF).<\/a><\/p>\n TAF is a newer version of TDF. TAF has a smaller side effect profile and does not have the same risk of causing kidney problems as does TDF.<\/p>\n For this reason TAF is a preferred treatment of choice but due to cost and availability it is not routinely offered as a first choice.
