If this was a recent sexual assault, then the high viral load would be interpreted as a very recent HIV infection. For example, viral load can commonly reach several million copies\/mL in the first months after transmission.<\/p>\n
The pneumonia could have been because your immune system was knocked by the high viral load. This could be if a test called CD4 was lower than 200 cells\/mm3.<\/p>\n
Even though this is a high viral load, modern HIV treatment – called ART – will be very effective. ART will reduce viral load to dramatically lower levels as soon as you start taking the meds. ART will also improve other symptoms, including the pneumonia and skin problems.hopefully<\/p>\n
Within a month or two, viral load might even be undetectable – defined as being less than 50 copies\/mL. Sometimes this can take a little longer – but the meds will still be working just as well.<\/p>\n
The only other time viral load gets this high, is in people who have been HIV positive for many years – but this doesn’t sound likely in your case. People in very late stage infection usually have had other health complications over the previous few years.<\/p>\n

I’m newly HIV positive and been sick both kidneys 5 days in the hospital in late June. July comes and they, tell me I have pneumonia.<\/p>\n
I also have skin problems and a rash on my body. Today had a skin biopsy done. I’ll wait for that, but when I went to the hospital because I couldn’t breathe five Days ago. thank God, I came, I was going to emergency room to my mother, emergency room to another emergency room. I live in the US.<\/p>\n
It’s crazy and the whole and they would take blood work. They do x-rays in my lungs, heart?\u00a0 EKG you know, but they never tested me for HIV until I got to this hospital because they read my blood work. I guess or told me I was HIV positive.\u00a0 my viral load, was at four million ucdavis is a great hospital BTW.<\/p>\n
So my question is with such a high viral load, 4 million and just to find out I just have HIV what’s most likely timeline, does anybody know that I contacted it?
