{"id":568,"date":"2008-09-11T15:49:01","date_gmt":"2008-09-11T14:49:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.i-base.info\/qa\/?p=568"},"modified":"2021-11-22T12:18:19","modified_gmt":"2021-11-22T12:18:19","slug":"how-are-babies-and-children-monitored","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/i-base.info\/qa\/568","title":{"rendered":"How are babies and children monitored?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Babies and children, just like adults, are monitored by a combination of checking for physical signs of illness and laboratory tests, including CD4 and viral load.<\/p>\n<p>For babies and young children the CD4 percentage (CD4%) is more important and accurate than the CD4 count.<\/p>\n<p>This is because babies are usually borm with very high absolute CD4 counts (often 2-3000 cells\/mm3) which gradually drops to normal adult levels during childhood.
