This includes individualising medical care and approaches to harm reduction.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This package of care should include as many health and social services as possible at a single clinic site. This improves both adherence and treatment outcomes.<\/p>\n<p>People are often reluctant\u00a0to come forward for treatment and care. Services need to be located somewhere that is acceptable, welcoming, easy to access and within the HIV clinic setting.<\/p>\n<p>Comprehensive, multi-disciplinary services should include the following.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Access to ART.<\/li>\n<li>Access to methadone and buprenorphine and other evidence-based treatment for drug dependence.<\/li>\n<li>Opportunistic infection prophylaxis and treatment, including for STIs.<\/li>\n<li>Accessible, non-judgemental healthcare team.<\/li>\n<li>Needle and syringe programmes.<\/li>\n<li>Overdose prevention (naloxone).<\/li>\n<li>Prevention, including vaccination, and treatment for viral hepatitis.<\/li>\n<li>Prevention, testing and treatment for TB.<\/li>\n<li>Mental health care.<\/li>\n<li>Reproductive health care.<\/li>\n<li>Adherence support and counselling.<\/li>\n<li>Strong links with community based programmes.<\/li>\n<li>Food programmes and public transport.<\/li>\n<li>Outreach.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Access to the best care for people who inject drugs includes a diverse range of services.
