Feeding your baby
This page is part of Pocket ART, an easy guide to HIV treatment.
Because HIV is present in breast/chest milk, bottle feeding with formula milk is strongly recommended in the UK
Bottle feeding with formula milk is health and nutritious and 100% safe for protecting your baby from becoming infected by HIV.
Being on ART with an undetectable viral load does greatly reduce the risk.
Please talk to your doctor if you want to breast/chest feed. This will make sure that both you and your baby get the right monitoring and support.
