Will I need to use contraception after the baby is born?
After your baby is born, your doctor and health team should give you advice on contraception.
Ovulation usually starts again about 6 weeks after the baby is born. And this can occur earlier if you don’t breast feed.
It is a good idea to discuss your plan for contraception after the baby is born before birth.
A few HIV drugs interact with oral contraceptives. But there are plenty of HIV drugs available which do not – including all NRTIs, dolutegravir, raltegravir and rilpivirine.
Please make sure both your home doctor (GP) and your HIV doctor knows about this and can advise you.
