Q and A

Question

I’m positive, can I travel to Malaysia?

I’m due to go on holiday to Malaysia for 3 weeks. Am I allowed in? Do I need to hide my medication?

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch.

Yes you can travel to Malaysia on holiday, your status should not be an issue. Please see here for more info: http://www.hivtravel.org/Default.aspx?PageId=143&CountryId=115

There’s no reason why you should need to hide your medication. It will be fine to leave it in its container.

    Hi Owen,

The info that we have access to is in that link. If you’re still concerned you’ll need to get in touch with your local Malaysian Embassy and ask them for more clarity.

i-based aren’t set up to look at travel and immigration issues, sorry.

Thanks Lisa, the information is conflicts. It still states that tourists are still subject to immigration laws. So if they found my medication they could request a blood test? I’m probably other thinking as I’m a little nervous.

I’m travelling to Malaysia next year but I’m concerned with taking my hiv medication. Not only that I will be taking strong pain killers which are deemed narcotics there. So I’m pretty sure they will look deeper into my medication. I’m I worrying or other thinking it?

    Hi RSP,

I’m sorry but this is not an area that we can help with. However, here’s the page from HIV Travel for Malaysia. It gives details for migrant workers.

Have you tried to confidentially contact your Embassy or the multi-national company?

I have been offered a C-level potion at a Malaysian multi-national company. Will my Positive HIV status mean that my resident/work permit will not be authorized/issued ?
