Q and A

Question

Will having sex without a condom have any impact on my CD4 count?

I’m positive and on treatment. I just want to know, will having sex without a condom have any impact on my CD4 count?

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch.

Having sex without a condom won’t have any impact on your CD4 count. The only issues that there could be are pregnancy if you aren’t using contraception (this is if you’re a woman) and STI’s.

    H Bryan,

I’m sorry, it sounds really tough at the moment.

But your meds look as though your doctor is trying to treat all your symptoms. What did they say about your treatment when they gave it to you?

Atenef is a generic version of Atripla and it is for treatment of HIV (ART). Amoxicillin is an antibiotic that treats bacterial infections. Aspirin and RF 21 can both be used for pain. And do you mean nystatin oral? That is used to treat thrush in your mouth and throat.

But please talk to your doctor about all your symptoms, including the lymph nodes.

Do you have access to your CD4 count and viral load results? And how long have you been on treatment?

    Please let us know.

In the meantime here’s an Introduction to ART.

    Hi Samantha,

    Do you mean Atenef?

Heart burn can be caused when acid comes up from the stomach towards the throat. But this is not a reported side effect of Atenef. So it’s a good idea to talk to the doctor about it.

Hello, just a week before I had a protected sex (on condom) with unknown person who I am not aware was infected by HIV. Sex was just for few seconds. Now since two days I am suffering from cold is this a sign of early stage of HIV. Please answer as I am very much afraid
