Q and A

Question

I’m on treatment and pregnant, will my baby be OK?

I started taking medication when I was 4 months pregnant, I’m now 8 months. Is my baby going to be OK?

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch.

It’s great to hear that you’re on medication, this is really important, not only for you, but also for your baby. As you’re on medication the risk to your baby will be drastically reduced, please see here for the more info: https://i-base.info/guides/pregnancy

    Hi Thandie,

Yes it’s possible to still have a negative baby, you will however need to have specialist care and you must adhere to your meds. You may also need to have a c-section. The following guide explains all of this: http://i-base.info/guides/pregnancy Please do bare in mind that this guide is for a UK context.

What are the chances of having a hiv negative baby when you started taking your meds at the last trimester of your pregnancy? “” how can you prevent the infection to the baby at this stage?
