Q and A

Question

How soon can I eat after taking Odimune?

I hear you say its advisable to take odimune (efavrienz+ FTC+ tenofovir) at bed time and its only taken on empty stomach, how long exactly should i stay away from food before taking it? The reason i am asking this is I can not starve the whole day before taking the tablet.

Answer

Saying that Odimune needs to be taken on an ’empty stomach’ doesn’t mean you need to starve yourself. It is fine to eat something before or when you take this, but you have to be careful to make sure this is not a high fat meal.

A high fat meal will increase levels of efavirenz and so you may get more side effects (mood changes, anxiety, disorientation or interrupted sleep etc). Food low in fat or with just a little fat, will be fine.

More about this is explained in this question: What happens if don’t take Atripla on an empty stomach?

Odimune is a generic version of Atripla which includes the same meds but is just made by a different company.

    Hi N Jonas,

Citenvir and Odimune are both generic versions of Atripla, please see here: https://i-base.info/guides/1561 What this means is that they both contain the same compounds. It’s common to switch between the different generic versions.

    Hi Buyi,

The drugs in Atroiza and Odimune are the same. They have different names because they are made by different companies. For other names for these meds please see Atripla.

But please talk to your doctor about your symptoms. You can ask if there are other meds that would be easier for you to take. You can aslo ask for your viral load results to check if these HIV meds are working well.

Please let us know your viral load results.

    Hi Matthew,

The quick answer is yes, you can take Luvigen during the day and at a time that fits your schedule.

Atroiza is a generic make of Atripla. And Atripla contains efavirenz that can make some people feel dizzy if taken during the day. So it’s recommended to take it before bedtime.

Luvigen is a generic make of a single pill that contains tenofovir, lamivudine (3TC) and dolutegravir. This HIV treatment is called TLD after the names of the 3 drugs in the pill. The main drug, dolutegravir, is not reported to have the dizzy side effect of efavirenz.

I’ve been taking Atroiza for two years at 7pm and have been changed to Luvigen..
Should I carry on at the same time or change since I’ve been told Luvigen should be taken during the day
