Tenofovir alafenamide (TAF) is a new version of tenofovir DF (TDF).

  • TAF uses a low milligram dose (25 mg)
  • TAF has similar efficacy against HIV as TDF.
  • TAF has lower risk of kidney and bone side effects compared to TDF

TAF is only available in formulations with other HIV meds in the same pill.

  • Descovy (TAF plus emtricitabine).
  • Odesfey (TAF plus rilpivirine plus emtricitabine).
  • Genvoya (TAF plus elvitegravir plus cobicistat plus emtricitabine).
  • Biktarvy (TAF plus emtircitabine plus bictegravir).
