Tenofovir alafenamide (TAF) is a more recent version of tenofovir DF (TDF).
- TAF uses a low milligram dose (25 mg).
- TAF has similar efficacy against HIV as TDF.
- TAF has lower risk of kidney and bone side effects compared to TDF.
- It is also used in combination with emtricitabine (FTC) by HIV negative people as PrEP.
TAF is only available in formulations with other HIV meds in the same pill.
