• AIDS 2026: Programme highlights to look out for

Even before the AIDS 2026 conference opens, the online programme shows some of the expected highlights.

This review covers new drugs and ART strategies, the global funding crisis, cure-related research, key populations including transgender people and community concerns including chemsex.

• AIDS 2026: High efficacy continues in open label extensions to lenacapavir phase 3 PrEP studies

Lenacapavir PURPOSE-1 and -2 studies show continued high efficacy as PrEP.

• New guidelines on persistent low-level viral load in people living with HIV

New guidelines on the management of persistent low-level viraemia (LLV) by an international panel of more than 100 experts and are now published in Lancet HIV. Importantly, they recognise there can be two distinct mechanisms for viral rebound: (i) ongoing replication which can be resuppressed or (ii) viral production from reservoir site which is non-suppressible.

• Important drug interactions between HIV drugs and encorafenib and dabrafenib
• Updated US paediatric HIV guidelines include dolutegravir from birth
• FDA and EMA applications to expand dolutegravir indication to newborns from birth
