CROI 2026: Statement in support of science

One reflection of the current climate in the US under the new Trump administration is shown by the conference organisers’ need to publish the statement below.

CROI 2026 included many sessions documenting the decimation of so many health programmes, including thousands of research studies that were abruptly cancelled without regard to the safety of study participants or this importance of the results that were lost.

Speakers focussed on the decimation from these policies on global health.

  • Targeting of scientists, their institutions, and the communities they serve
  • Barriers to international collaboration in research
  • Withdrawal of funding for research
  • Abrupt withdrawal of evidence-based prevention and treatment programs
