Question
I’m on meds and pregnant, will my baby be OK?
1 February 2017. Related: All topics, Pregnancy.
When I found that I was HIV positive I was already 8 weeks pregnant. I started meds straight away. My CD4 was 325. Will my baby be OK?
Answer
Thanks for getting in touch. And congratulations on your pregnancy.
No one can say for sure that your baby will be born negative. However, because you’re on medication the risks are drastically reduced. What’s important is to keep taking your medication as prescribed. For more information about HIV and pregnancy please see here:

Do you know what your CD4 count is and viral load?
Hi Yolanda,
What meds are you taking? Do you have a recent CD4 count and viral load?
Because you have lost a lot of weight and in a short space of time, I would advice that you go and talk to your doctor. This is because this may have nothing to do with your HIV.
Hi. I started taking ARVS treatment in August 2016 and I was weighing 64kilos. When I started treatment and my CD4 count was 543. y weight now is 50kilos. I don’t drink, and I don’t smoke.
